Get ready now for the 2027 filing season
The IRS urges taxpayers, especially self-employed and gig workers, to review withholding, estimated payments and records before the 2027 filing season.
The IRS is encouraging taxpayers to start preparing now so filing their 2026 taxes brings fewer surprises.
If you're self-employed, own a small business or do gig work, you may need to make quarterly estimated tax payments, because no tax is withheld from that income. If you're an employee, use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator and give your employer a new Form W-4 if needed.
Keep your records in one place: Forms W-2 and 1099, last year's return, your bank details for direct deposit, IRS letters, and proof of deductions and credits.
Watch for scams: don't click links or open attachments in unexpected messages that claim to be from the IRS.
Gather your 2026 documents and check with us whether you need to make estimated payments.
